Spotlight: A beginner's guide to sketch comedy that will take you from a premise to a fully realized sketch. This course will walk you through the elements of a sketch and how to write good sketches; it also features workshop sessions where you'll do read-throughs and get feedback on the writing assignments you'll be preparing. You'll walk away with a solid grounding in the foundations of sketch comedy, as well as the knowledge of how to craft and write sketches of your own. Your instructors for the course come from Bad Medicine, DC's premier sketch comedy troupe. Trained by the Upright Citizens Brigade and Second City, Bad Medicine has performed at North American festivals like Montreal Sketchfest, NYC Sketchfest, Chicago Sketchfest, and Sketchfest Seattle. They also produce award-winning short comedy films, and a podcast about the craft of sketch comedy called Sketch Nerds.
About the Instructor
Bad Medicine is a team of friends from a political town doing non-political comedy. With a bent toward the dark and the absurd, we keep the audience guessing with varied styles and formats, with the goal of pointing out the ugliness and the silliness of real life. It's the right amount of stupid fun. Bad Medicine has performed at comedy festivals such as SF Sketchfest, NYC Sketchfest, Austin Sketchfest, Montreal Sketchfest, Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, SketchFest Seattle and Philly Sketchfest.
